San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced Sunday that quarterback Trey Lance broke his ankle in Sunday's 27-7 win against the Seattle Seahawks and will undergo season-ending surgery.
Lance was carted off to the locker room with an air cast on his ankle in the first quarter. The 49ers ruled him out for the rest of the contest minutes later, and Jimmy Garoppolotook over under center for San Francisco.
The 22-year-old went down after taking a hit while trying to run the ball at Seattle's 21-yard line on his third carry of the day. He also went 2-for-3 passing for 30 yards before exiting.
