Juan Soto wants the trade talk to end


Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto is already tired of hearing about the trade deadline.

"I just want to get it over with and see what's going to happen," Soto said, according to MLB.com's Jessica Camerato. "I mean, just go over that day and start over here or wherever I'm at."

Soto has been the biggest focus in baseball ahead of Tuesday's deadline, with several teams interested in the 23-year-old star who reportedly turned down a massive 15-year, $440-million contract extension from the Nationals.

Deshaun Watson sexual assault decision coming


A decision on discipline for Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson following accusations of sexual misconduct is coming Monday.

Two people with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that retired judge Sue L. Robinson has informed the NFL and the NFL Players' Association she's ready to issue a ruling on Watson's disciplinary hearing that concluded a month ago. They spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the discussions are private.

49ers sign Deebo Samuel to 3 years


The San Francisco 49ers agreed to a three-year, $71.55-million contract extension with wide receiver Deebo Samuel, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Samuel's new deal will include $58.1 million guaranteed and has a max value of $73.5 million.

Tony Finau wins Rocket Mortgage Classic

Arizona trade David Peralta to Tampa Bay


The Arizona Diamondbacks are trading outfielder David Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays for 19-year-old catching prospect Christian Cerda, the D-Backs announced Saturday.

Peralta, 34, is in the final season of a three-year, $22-million contract he signed prior to the 2020 campaign. The former Silver Slugger and Gold Glove winner is hitting .248/.316/.460 with 12 homers and one steal over 87 games so far this season.

Padres and Musgrove close to signing new contract


The San Diego Padres and Joe Musgrove are close to agreeing on a contract extension, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. It's expected that the deal, once finalized, will be worth $100 million over five years, sources told Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Musgrove is expected to take his physical in the next few days and an official announcement could come as soon as Monday

Ducks sign John Klingberg


The top remaining defenseman on the free-agent market is finally off the board.

The Anaheim Ducks signed veteran blue-liner John Klingberg to a one-year contract, the team announced Friday.

Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but Klingberg will earn $7 million next season

Two people with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that retired judge Sue L. Robinson is not issuing a ruling Friday on Watson's disciplinary hearing that concluded a month ago.

They spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the discussions are private.

Watson was accused of sexual misconduct by 24 massage therapists when he played for the Houston Texans and has settled 20 of the civil lawsuits. Two separate Texas grand juries declined to indict Watson on criminal complaints stemming from the allegations.

Angels listening to offers for Shohei Ohtani


Shohei Ohtani might not be untouchable. The Los Angeles Angels are listening to offers for the reigning American League MVP, Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Though a blockbuster trade still appears unlikely to happen before Tuesday's deadline, the Angels are fielding offers on all of their players and aren't outright saying no to teams calling about Ohtani, according to Heyman and Sherman.

DK Metcalf signs 3 Year Extension


Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is signing a three-year, $72-million extension that includes $58.2 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The deal also includes a $30-million signing bonus, the highest ever for a wide receiver, Schefter reports. 

The 24-year-old was entering the final year of his rookie contract, which was set to pay him $3.9 million in 2022. Metcalf's new pact ties him to Seattle through 2025.

Ryan Jensen carted off with knee injury


Tampa Bay Buccaneers center Ryan Jensen suffered what's feared to be a serious knee injury in practice Thursday and needed to be carted off the field, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo report.

The Pro Bowler is still undergoing testing and hopes to have a definitive answer in the next few days, per Rapoport and Garafolo.

San Jose Sharks will retire Marleau’s #12


The San Jose Sharks will retire Patrick Marleau's No. 12 prior to the club's game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Feb. 25, the team announced Thursday.

Bobby Ryan arrested at Nashville airport


Former NHL player Bobby Ryan was arrested Monday at Nashville International Airport and charged with public intoxication.

According to ScoopNashville.com, which obtained the arrest warrant, Ryan was caught taking several items from a store inside the airport without paying for them. Once airport police were notified, they began a search for Ryan and eventually found him sitting in an airport bar, purportedly waiting for a drink he had just ordered after abandoning the stolen items on an airport counter.

Hockey Canada CEO Scott Smith will not step down


Hockey Canada CEO Scott Smith said Wednesday during testimony in front of Parliament that he won't resign from his position, according to CBC's Richard Raycraft.

Many voices, including advocate and survivor Sheldon Kennedy, have called for Smith, as well as Hockey Canada's board, to step down in the wake of two ongoing sexual assault scandals. Numerous MPs on Wednesday also pressed Smith to quit.

US offers Russia a deal to bring Brittney Griner home


The Biden administration has offered a deal to Russia aimed at bringing home WNBA star Brittney Griner and another jailed American, Paul Whelan, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday. In a sharp reversal of previous policy, Blinken also said he expects to speak with his Kremlin counterpart for the first time since before Russia invaded Ukraine.

Mike Trout dealing with back issues


Los Angeles Angels All-Star outfielder Mike Trout is dealing with a rare condition in his back, making a timetable for his return to the lineup unclear, Angels trainer Mike Frostad said Wednesday, according to The Athletic's Sam Blum.

PGA Tour modifies FedEx Point structure


The PGA TOUR is introducing a new eligibility points list ahead of this year's FedEx Cup playoffs, according to Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard.

The new eligibility standard will be slightly different from the season's ongoing FedEx Cup points list as it will remove suspended players from the rankings.

The purpose of the change was so "that suspended members do not negatively impact other players' tournament eligibility, positioning on the priority rankings or eligibility to compete in the FedEx Cup playoffs

LIV Golf expands 2023 schedule


LIV Golf will play an expanded schedule in 2023, with 48 players within 12 established teams set to compete in 14 tournaments featuring increased prize money, the Saudi-backed rival circuit announced Wednesday. 

The organization is hosting eight events throughout its debut season in 2022. Many players who joined LIV said the shorter schedule was a key draw in breaking away from the PGA TOUR.

Joe Burrow out with appendix surgery


Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is undergoing surgery to remove his appendix, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Burrow is slated to miss some practice time due to the procedure, Rapoport added.

The star quarterback led the Bengals to their first Super Bowl appearance in 33 years last season. He threw for 34 touchdowns to 14 interceptions while completing 70.4% of his passes for 4,611 yards.

NBA will not have vaccine mandate for 22-23 season


The NBA won't have a vaccine mandate in place for the upcoming 2022-23 season, according to a league memo obtained by Yahoo Sports' Vincent Goodwill.

The league will, however, strongly suggest all personnel be fully vaccinated and could potentially test unvaccinated players on occasion, Goodwill adds.

There was no league-wide vaccine mandate for players last season, but COVID-19 shots were required for all team personnel who worked within 15 feet of players or referees during games. That group included coaches, front-office members, and trainers.

"The same people with a new plan expecting different results is the definition of insanity," Kennedy wrote. "I call for the resignation of Hockey Canada CEO Scott Smith, his leadership team, and the board of directors to resign and step down from their positions immediately.
